Santhivanam – School for Intellectually Disabled
Santhivanam School for Intellectually Disabled has been a nurturing space for children with intellectual disabilities since its inception. The school offers both residential and day-care facilities for children aged 5 to 14 years, providing a safe and caring environment that feels like home.
With a current strength of 125 students, including 85 residential beneficiaries with severe and profound disabilities and 40 day scholars, the school remains dedicated to offering individualized care, therapy, and education. Each child receives regular medical attention and the support of a team of qualified, trained, and compassionate teachers who work tirelessly to bring them closer to the mainstream of society.

The Sinkari Melam of Pope Paul Mercy Home is a breathtaking fusion of rhythm, energy, and emotion — a traditional Chenda Melam performed with remarkable skill and enthusiasm by our children with intellectual disabilities. With every vibrant beat and synchronized step, our children bring Kerala’s cultural heartbeat to life, filling the air with excitement and pride. What makes our Sinkari Melam truly special is not just the precision of the drums, but the passion and joy that radiate from every performer. Through dedicated practice, our children have mastered the art of rhythm, coordination, and movement, transforming music into a language of confidence and self-expression. Our band has proudly performed outside the institution, captivating audiences wherever they go. Their performances stand as a living testimony that true art comes from the heart, and that talent shines brightest when nurtured with love and opportunity.
ABLE ANGELS
Able Angels is a one-hour stage performance that showcases the extraordinary talent, creativity, and spirit of the children of Pope Paul Mercy Home. Designed to highlight the abilities of our students with intellectual disabilities, this vibrant program is a joyful celebration of art, rhythm, and expression. The performance features a dynamic blend of Sinkari Melam, Fusion Dance, Fusion Melam, and a lively Comedy Figure Show, bringing together tradition and modernity in perfect harmony. Each segment bursts with color, energy, and emotion — capturing the hearts of audiences everywhere. Our talented performers have already staged over 25 successful shows outside the institution, earning admiration and applause for their confidence, coordination, and passion. Every performance of Able Angels is not just entertainment — it’s a message of hope, inclusion, and the boundless potential that lies within every child.
BANDSET
The Pope Paul Mercy Home Bandset is one of the most heartwarming and inspiring highlights of our institution. Performed with pride and joy by our children with intellectual disabilities, the band brings rhythm, color, and celebration to every occasion, filling hearts with happiness and hope. Each beat of the drum and every melody played reflects the spirit, perseverance, and hidden talent of our special children.
